(RVCWRT)
SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS
The RVCWRT will provide a $ 3000 scholarship opportunity to a local 2009 high school graduate who declares his/her intention to major in history, archaeology, or preservation, outlines his/her post undergraduate career objectives, and produces a 1200 to 1500 word essay.
Seniors at all public, private and parochial high schools (non-boarding) in Fredericksburg City and Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George, Orange, and Culpeper counties are eligible to submit an application. The eligible high schools are:

A) The applicant should obtain the RVCWRT Scholarship Application Form
from our website: www.RVCWRT.org
B) Submit your RVCWRT Scholarship packet POSTMARKED not later than February 28, 2009 to:

C) The packet must contain:
1) The signed scholarship application containing two (2) signatures
on the last page.
2) A copy of your high school grade transcript(s) including the first semester
of this 2008/20097 school year and your GPA.
3) Two (2) academic letters of recommendation from your high school teachers;
and one (1) non-school letter of recommendation from a person not
related to you.
4) Four (4) copies of your essay. The essay must be double spaced and a
minimum of 1200 words with a maximum of 1500 words.
NOTE: The grade transcript and academic letters of recommendation may be sent directly
to the Scholarship Committee at the address above based on your high school’s
policies.
D) Essay topic:
The seminal events in 19th Century American history were the War Between the States; the political upheaval in the years preceding secession; and the healing of societal rifts during the years of reconstruction.
Applicants should construct an essay on what specific event, during the above period, that in the opinion of the applicant, made the most lasting impact on American society; why that event generated such an impact; and what relevance that event produces in American lives today.
E) Calendar of relevant dates:
August 1, 2008 - scholarship materials available on website.
February 28, 2009 – deadline for submitting the scholarship packet.
March 15 to April 15, 2009 – interviews conducted with application finalists.
July 13, 2009 – presentation at Roundtable’s dinner meeting.
F) * There will be a contact source identified on the web site for questions.
* Each applicant will receive a postcard acknowledgement of the receipt of their
application packet.
* Applicants not selected for award of the scholarship will be so informed by letter.
* Application finalists will be notified by letter that they have been selected for a
90 minute (maximum) interview with the Scholarship Committee. The date, time
and location of the interview will be mutually agreed upon.
* The scholarship winner will be invited with their parents,
by letter, to the July 13, 2009 dinner meeting (2nd Monday) of the RVCWRT.
At the dinner the scholarship winner will be asked to give a 10/15 minute synopsis
(reading) of their essay to the members present.
